Atomic Hero

You are an ace chemical engineer who has just been recruited by the government for a top secret mission. 5 years ago, experiments in cold fusion were well underway in the thinly populated district of Fernoble in the barren north but an unknown accident left the facility in ruins and the report became highly classified. While the loss of the research and technology were bad enough, it appears the effects of the accident have continued to grow. Local townspeople, far west of Fernoble, have been experiencing strange phenomenon where common household items such as tables and chairs, have just fallen to pieces, as if ripped apart by some mysterious force. These occurrences are spreading and becoming more intense threatening the community and the livelihood of the people.

Government scientists have determined the cause of these occurrences are due to the mysterious emergence of what can only be described as “microscopic black holes” around Fernoble. These black holes seem to be separating individual atoms from their molecules leaving them to destabilize and dematerialize. And to make matters worse, these black holes are on the move.

Fortunately, the only piece of technology recovered from the facility so far seems to provide a way to address the situation. The Cold Fusion Syringe (CFS), an atomic sized “gun”, can shoot and inject individual atoms into molecules under certain conditions. Tests have shown that injecting the appropriate atoms into destabilizing molecules can restore their bonds and provide them with enough energy to escape the black hole.

You, aspiring young one, have been assigned to investigate the Fernoble accident, determine the source of these black holes and stop the emerging destruction before it threatens the entire nation. Of course, our scientists fear that the black holes are only a symptom of a larger problem… So you must be prepared to use your knowledge of chemical reactions and molecular theory to overcome anything that may arise. We’re counting on you. Good luck.

Instructions

The objective of the demo is to match the atoms in your supply (located at the bottom of the screen) with the molecules in the world that are missing them (located as a cluster in the middle of the screen) in the fastest time possible.

To match an atom, double click on the molecule in the cluster you want to match it to. The right most atom in your supply will fly across the screen and if it successfully collides with the molecule it will be bonded.

To locate a molecule that will accept the right-most atom in your supply, click and drag the left mouse button over the cluster to rotate it in 3D. When you found a group of atoms that you wish to inspect, mouse over them and look at the window on the left hand side of the screen. This will tell you which molecule the atoms belong to and will provide you a hint on which additional atoms they need.

If you cannot find a match for your atom in your supply, double-click in the space surrounding the cluster to fire it away for good.

When all your atoms in your supply have been exhausted, the demo will provide you with a score. Click anywhere on the score screen to advance to the next level.

Each level has a different supply of atoms and different cluster of molecules, creating a different puzzle to solve. There are 3 levels in this demo.
